Member Protection

The Iraqi Seafarers Union provides direct representation for members facing disputes with employers, shipping companies, or port authorities. We work to ensure every member receives fair treatment, proper wages, and safe working conditions in accordance with Iraqi and international maritime labor law.

Many Iraqi seafarers work aboard international vessels, often far from home and Iraqi legal protections. ISU maintains relationships with international maritime unions to extend support and representation to our members wherever they sail.

Emergency Support

When a member faces an emergency — an unsafe vessel, withheld wages, or a dispute that requires immediate intervention — ISU provides direct emergency support to protect their safety and rights without delay.

Training & Awareness

Knowledge is protection. ISU runs ongoing educational programs to ensure members understand their rights under Iraqi and international maritime labor law, as well as the safety, training, and compliance standards expected aboard any vessel.

• Basic Safety Training (BST) and Advanced Fire Fighting
• Personal Survival Techniques and Proficiency in Survival Craft
• Medical First Aid and Security Awareness Training
• Bridge Resource Management and Engine Room Resource Management
• Leadership, teamwork, and environmental protection training
• Awareness sessions on SOLAS, MARPOL, MLC, STCW, and ISPS compliance
